Christmas week and travel update

Flying with the girls ended up not being so bad. The worst part was going through security where we each had to hold a baby through the metal detector, come out the other side and wit while they swabbed your hands, then somehow collect all of the stuff coming through the conveyer belt while holding a baby. Their car seats came through last after the two diaper bags, one computer bag, my purse shoes and sweater, and their stroller. What a pain!

Alex wore her airplane PJs and got mistaken for a boy all day!

Josie reads the safety card as instructed.

On the flight itself I wouldn't say the girls didn't get fussy but when they did it was fairly easy to find something to calm them - whether it was a toy or snack or bottle or looking out the window. The one thing I found difficult was just how wiggly they were. They have gotten so strong and can really escape your grip. Once out of our arms and on the floor they would explore under the chairs and we're finding all sorts of horrible stuff like an old potato chip or wadded up paper or wrappers. Yuck!

Texting their friends as soon as we landed.

So far our trip is going really well. We had a little bit of fussing from Josie on the first night but not too much and certainly after such a long day I don't blame her. We got a huge upgrade to a suite at the hotel  which comes with a dining and sitting area and a giant bed. I thought I'd let her rest in bed with us till she fell asleep then move her back into the pack n play but she found it hilarious to kick mom in the face then bust into laughter so... Back into the pack n play she went. Thankfully she fell sleep soon after.

We've been letting them stay up a bit later and sleep a bit later so we aren't messing with their west coast schedules too much. So far that is working out ok. It's been a bit of a math puzzle every day having to create a lose schedule of bottles and naps based on wake up time!

Ready for her first snow outing!

The girls seem to be jumping a few steps developmentally the last few days. I'm wondering if this is just because we are with them 24/7 or it's because of the trip and being out of their routine, or because the next wonder week starts tomorrow?  Josie is really trying to put words together and 'answers' us when we ask her a question (usually by saying "yeah!") She has also learned the word "Dog" as she has now met and is fascinated with grandma Barbara's and Papa Eric's dogs Mandy and Hannah. She chases them and pets them (and not gently) and points to them and gets mad when she is taken away.

Alex went back in time and had this photo taken...actually this is Jamey's mom! I couldn't believe it when I saw this and the similarities between Barbara and Alex!

Alex is really exploring and having a great time. She was beyond excited when we got j to the hotel and had to race around everywhere to examine everything with a goofy laugh and squeaks of excitement. She's loving the steps at the house and exploring everything there too. She found the ceramic tile laid into the floor with a picture of a dog and pointed at it and at Hannah, which floored all of us. She loves the new toys to play with and of course sitting with Papa.

Speaking of Papa he gave the girls each a chocolate chip cookie (their first) and I'm pretty sure the girls LOVED them. Alex's was gone before I could take a picture and Josie held on to hers for about an hour taking perfect little bites (not sure how without any teeth!!) Adorable!!

And meeting grandpa Jeff for the first time

50 weeks - Merry Christmas!!!

We are literally somewhere over the United States as this blog is being posted. Technology is wonderful!

This week has been crazy between trying to wrap things up at work to take a week off, getting the girls stuff, and our stuff ready for our trip, and trying to celebrate the holidays with our usual traditions. And I've been sick this whole time.

We did our "KFC Christmas" tradition on Wednesday night - a tradition that began when Becky and I first lived alone in Los Angeles and KFC was the only place open on Christmas to get some take out! It was the girls' first time opening gifts and boy were they cute!!! There must be some "unwrap" instinct because both girls dove right into their packages from Becky and Tom!

Alex is getting tooth #5 (on the bottom) and you wouldn't even know it.

Josie rocking her Christmas Tree fascinator!

Alex assesses which gift to open first! Go big?
Good things come in small packages? Decisions!

Already a professional!
Alex isn't sure about her antlers, but did wear them a lot longer than we expected her to!
I am sure after all of the chaos and stress of this week that we finally made it to the airport in time, checked in ok, people were friendly and the girls are being wonderful little angels on the plane.

Throwing the bow...

And then this happened....
