Date Night

Saturday night when my mom was still in town, Jamey and I went on a date night. Just the two of us. We had dinner at Public Kitchen and it was fantastic. The date and the restaurant.

I was worried that all I would talk about would be the girls. I had asked my mom and sister for current event topics that I could bring up, but I had exhausted all of them in the car ride over. Besides, capsized ferries and missing airplanes are not great romantic date topics.

We got there and on the drink menu, among the variety of specialty cocktails, was one called the Alexandra, and one called the Winters Coming. So much for ignoring the parenting topic! We each ordered one and jinxed each other when we simultaneously made a toast 'to the girls' ! The drinks were delicious.

Even though the cocktails opened the topic up to the babies and parenting, it was ok. We looked at the pictures Becky had taken that day of them in the hammock and laughed, talked about travel with them and the future and it was ok. We talked about a lot of other things too, baby related and not. It was a great date night and we had as much fun as any time we had gone out before I got pregnant.

Conversation flowed as easily as on our first date almost 10 years ago. As much as we had become strangers for a few weeks there, and had other people coming in and out of our lives so much lately, he and I were reminded that we started all of this and we are still best friends.

Things have been happening so fast - 15 weeks!

According to baby and parenting websites, this week the girls might be flipping over or rolling. We give the girls a steady diet of tummy time, and I think Josie is doing really well at lifting her head up, while Lexie kind of lays there getting through her "punishment" of tummy time. I don't know why but Lexie's general dislike of tummy time makes me laugh. On their backs, Josie is really kicking her legs up and moving them from side to side, and I could see how this would get her rolling or moving eventually, and things have been happening so fast, who knows, maybe by tomorrow?

Josie is grabbing at different fabrics and putting them on her face and mouth investigating each item. She especially loves the swaddle blankets we brought home from the hospital. Lexie just puts everything in her mouth - dolls, toys, fingers, and her Sophie.

They are also both smiling like crazy, and even laughing sometimes, especially if we make funny faces for them. They love when I dance for them. Its exhausting to do this when they are fussy though, as even looking like I need a break will solicit little pouty faces, never mind if I try to stop or do a lazier dance move - its hands in the air or nothing with these ladies!

Lexie LOVES to sit up and if I just hold her little hand, she can sit up for quite a while! I know sitting up doesn't happen until about 6 months but I wouldn't be surprised if she is a bit early there. She was also early with grasping and reaching for toys - which they both do now!

My mom is in town visiting - I appreciate that she was able to come again so soon, because things have been happening so fast that its nice she gets to see the girls' development. I am hoping she can come back at the end of summer when they have doubled yet again in size and development again.

Josie loves the bath!

Alexandra loves to suck on her fingers.
