22 Week Ultrasound

Babies are each the size of a Papaya



The papaya reference is interesting - papaya has always given me horrible heart burn since it is so acidic. Coincidentally, I started having horrible, constant heartburn just a few days ago. I got some great meds from the doc (who is usually anti medication, so these must be pretty safe) today to help with that.

Babies are about a foot long and about a pound each. Everyone was looking great!! Baby B was showing off his or her fancy foot work, which was extremely weird because I could not only see it, but I could feel it happening. Baby A was super chill.

I was given the final O.K. to head to Lisa's wedding in Massachusetts next week! So exciting to get away for a few days. It will be a while before James and I can sneak off together for a getaway!! Also exciting - James is on his way back from Croatia and should be home by 9 p.m. tonight. :)

Hump day - 22 weeks!

And a HUGE Happy Birthday to Aunt Stephanie!! Stephanie will be able to tell the twins all about sharing a birthday with someone you love, as her boyfriend Dave is also celebrating a birthday today! Lots of love to you both and can't wait to see you out here in L.A.!! And of course, love that the hockey talk has already begun, despite our distance.

22 Weeks

The little guys are super active lately - and starting to punch hard enough to see it, but they get shy when Auntie Becky is watching.  16 more weeks to go, thank goodness: its getting so uncomfortable to do anything, sitting in one position for too long gets painful, and any sort of activity makes me feel just absolutely exhausted - even just walking from my car to the front door. And I have almost completely lost the ability to put on socks. :(

OB appointment tomorrow to check for discordance, good growth progress and heart beats, as well as to make sure I am doing ok. Last time I was there, the OB gave me permission to go to Boston at the end of the month, so I am hoping that is still the case! We are really looking forward to the trip!

In other news: James is wrapping up a commercial he is shooting in Croatia. It seems like it has been a great experience for him, despite some failure to cooperate on the part of the weather. I taught my first official law school class last night! It was so much fun to be "Professor Crocket."  I have two more classes to teach this semester and I hope they budget for the program again next year, I would just love to make this a habit.

On Sunday I was lucky enough to be invited to a pre-season hockey game (Kings/Coyotes) with my friend Missy - who had some (gratis) tickets for a Luxury Suite! The Kings were not at their best, but it was so much fun to be at a hockey game again.

Score!

First - Very excited to say that my hockey buddies and I have purchased our first NHL Kings tickets of the season! We are going to the Sens/Kings game. My friend Missy was kind enough to secure some aisle seats so I wont bother the whole row every time I have to get up. Very excited! It will be the little roos' first hockey game, and I couldn't think of a better match up!

Second - The local twin club I joined has a bi-annual clothing swap. Expecting moms can bring a donation of $5 and participate, and twin moms bring their hand me downs and trade for the larger sizes. I was encouraged to come, then encouraged several times to "just take more" stuff. Then encouraged to take a free double snap n go stroller which, frankly, I wasn't going to bother getting, but hey why not, it was free. It was a ton of stuff (yet frankly, I think I had a lot less than many other people there! Especially since most was so gender specific). Oh! The other three expecting moms there were ALL having TWO girls, so I could have literally taken all of the boy stuff if I had wanted to - here are some pictures of the take:

Its Bump Day (aka Hump Day) - 21 weeks

We are 21 weeks along tomorrow. This week has been a bit tough - I think every so often there is a growth spurt and I think this is one of them - sore sides and back and complete discomfort in almost any position.

I am trying to watch what I eat, because the ravishing insatiable hunger sometimes leads me to make poor choices. So my goal is to keep the fridge loaded with healthy options, and remind myself that chicken and vegetables are better for the babies than pizza.

In super fun news, James and I have decided (and gotten permission from the doctor) to do a "baby moon" to Boston at the end of the month. It is also my dear friend Lisa's wedding, which I would be totally heartbroken to miss. We now have plane tickets and a hotel and I am SO excited for this trip, it is giving me something to look forward to in the short term and take my mind off of every (unfounded) worry (i.e. why hasn't baby B kicked in 2 hours? Is that a cramp or a contraction? How much bigger is this bump going to get? list goes on...)

15 weeks - and I thought this was "big" ha ha!!

A Wonderful Endorsement

Even before we found out we were having two kids at once, I had been on the fence about my OB - I have a hard time understanding him, he seems wacky, the sparkly cow boy boots, and ancient office equipment. When we found out we were having two, one of his office assistants said "we've never had twins before!" and of course that made me very worried about the situation there.

I asked my specialist about My OB and he had no problem with my OB. and wondered why the office assistant would have said such a thing.

Today I went to my wonderful primary care physician (PCP) to see about changing obstetricians.  My PCP Dr. walks in and asked me what my issues are, and after telling her, she tells me she is also pregnant with twins! Due 3 weeks after me. She let me know that she is also seeing my same OB, and is very happy with him, his availability and his over precaution. She prefers him to other offices because he calls or texts her back right away if anything is wrong.

We realized we had both heard of each other: she had been told there was a lawyer pregnant with twins who brings in a yellow pad of questions, and I had been told there was a Dr. pregnant with twins. Too funny.

Anyhow, I am now feeling very comfortable with my medical team: my specialist at USC medical center is AMAZING and even my primary care physician chose my OB over all other options in Burbank for her twin pregnancy.  We are in good hands, babies!

Who would have thought?

There is a lot of construction going on in our condo - long story short, due to a building-wide settlement with the builder, tubs & showers are being fitted with proper water proofing and support, along with many other projects.

Our guest bathroom is complete and they have now moved to the master bath. The master shower was "hot mopped" on Friday - a process that essentially means laying a thick layer of a water proof tar substance under the shower pan to avoid water leaks and mold. It smells and it smells toxic and probably not great for pregnant ladies.

So Friday night we decided to "camp out" in our living room. I blew up the "camping" mattress on the living room floor and slept there while James took the couch. Many pregnant women complain about aches and pains while sleeping, which I have definitely been suffering from. Well, our crappy camping mattress that I had marked for the trash has been the best two nights of sleep I have had for a while! I guess sinking into it as the air escapes is helping my hip and sciatic nerve pain. I may hold on to this mattress for just a while longer.

In other "lame things pregnant ladies do" news - I made James download a baby heart monitor app on his IPhone and after about 20 minutes, we were able to locate baby B's heart, then another 10 minutes of searching found baby A's heart (we think, who knows, could be my pulse). But very nice to have some (perhaps fabricated) peace of mind knowing all is good in there.

20 week ultrasound

Not too much to report:

Had a good dr visit this morning. The babies are measuring about the same size, and nice and big for their "gestational age" - no signs of IUGR*  Everything else looked good and shockingly, I am still measuring 26 weeks pregnant (6 weeks ahead) which is what I measured last time I was there. I am fine with that.

The babies are back to a yin yang position and Baby A was sucking his/her thumb and had the hiccups - total cute overload!

We will be going back for a routine visit in two weeks.
