Helmet Update - week 6

We went to our 6 week helmet appointment today and have great news! First off, the best news is that the helmets are working, despite having gotten them so late. Second, not only are they working, but they are working really well. In fact, they are working so well that Josie might graduate from hers early - on December 29th! And Alex wont be too far behind her.

Just got these a few minutes ago from Brittany - the girls at the park!

The specialist actually said "good job, mom" when he took Alex's helmet off. What a compliment! I had read a ton of material about the helmets and it sure seemed like the people who gave their kids too many breaks were the ones who had little to no results or had to keep the helmets forever. Knowing that, I went into this wanting to follow the instructions to the T. Looks like that is paying off.

We also got permission to let the girls have the helmets off for Christmas Eve and Christmas! Yay!

For anyone looking for the technical update: Neither Josie or Alex is exhibiting any asymmetry anymore (though theirs was very slight to begin with - called Plagiocephaly and what most helmets are used for). Alex, who has the brachycephaly, is showing huge improvements in her "ml" measurement - and it really looks, to my eye, like it is almost gone. The doctor is really blown away by this improvement because the skull area involved in the brachycephaly condition are the hardest bones, and it usually takes much longer to show improvement and, as he warned us in the beginning, sometimes (in a large number of cases actually) never improves.

We are really really happy with the results, and what I thought would feel like a very long haul seems like it was 100% worth it and is almost over!

Now a brief update: The girls are recovering from a cold, thank goodness. Its a bad one, I know, because Alex successfully stuck her germy hand into my mouth and sneezed into my eyeballs enough times to get me sick. This was very sad since Saturday night was Jamey's work Holiday party and I had been looking forward to a nice night out and dancing. We went and had a good time but my energy really ran out early. Ah well - we looked good!
